Lianne Dalziel, MP for Christchurch East

“A politician never really likes to admit that they need professional help, but in the field of art I was very glad that I could call on Gillie for the advice I needed to make purchases that would not only grace the walls of my Beehive office, but would also speak of the roles I played in government.  I made two purchases. One was a John Pule lithograph, which told a migration story – very appropriate for a Minister of Immigration.  The other had a similar theme, or so I thought, until Gillie introduced me to the artist, Michael Reed, and he explained the story behind the Anxious Islands triptych, which is a powerful statement of protest against nuclear testing in the Pacific.  I have since sold the Pule, and for those who are interested in art for investment, it sold for considerably more than I bought it, and it will continue to appreciate in value.  The Reed is another story, because I love it so much, I am not interested in selling it.

Gillie gave me good advice when I needed it and I would not hesitate to recommend her to anyone requiring independent expert help selecting art. And on top of all of that, Gillie is a wonderfully warm, interested and interesting person and she is good fun too!”

Gillie Deans carried out an appraisal of our art collection in  2007. Gillie was thorough, professional and reliable. Her follow up was detailed and comprehensive. She was a pleasure to work with, acted with integrity and her fees seemed very reasonable to us.
